FAQs
What can I expect during my first therapy session?
During your first therapy session, you can expect to engage in what we call an Intake. An intake typically is anywhere between 60-90 minutes of obtaining history and background information as well as discussing goals for your time with us. Your therapist will also explain confidentiality, their approach to therapy, and answer any questions you may have.
How long are therapy sessions?
Typically the duration of therapy sessions is 50-60 minutes for individual sessions and 60-90 minutes for couples or families.
How often should I attend therapy?
The frequency of sessions depends upon the needs and goals of the individual. My recommendation is weekly for better results. we understand finances can create a barrier for clients so bi-weekly and monthly session are available upon request.
Why are there no in-person options available?
Mental Essence recently transitioned to cities and has not yet found a safe space for our clients to connect in person just yet. In-person sessions will return soon!
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Deciding whether therapy is right for you is a personal choice that depends on various factors, including your current circumstances, challenges, and goals. Therapy may be beneficial if you’re experiencing difficulties managing emotions, coping with stress, or navigating life transitions. It can also be helpful for individuals seeking personal growth, self-awareness, or support in achieving specific goals. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unable to make progress on your own, therapy can provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Ultimately, the decision to pursue therapy is based on your willingness to engage in the therapeutic process, openness to change, and commitment to your well-being. If you’re unsure whether therapy is right for you, consider scheduling a 15-minute consultation to discuss your concerns and explore how therapy can support your needs and goals.
How long does therapy typically last?
The outcome of your treatment depends largely on your willingness to engage in this process, which may, at times, result in considerable discomfort. Some clients benefit from short-term goals and others may need several months. Life is consistently unpredictable. Remembering unpleasant events and becoming aware of feelings attached to those events can bring on strong feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, etc. There are no miracle cures. I cannot promise that your behavior or circumstances will change. I can promise to support you and do my very best to understand you and repeating patterns, as well as to help you clarify what it is that you want for yourself.
What is your approach to therapy?
I am a Licenced Professional Counseling Associate interested in safety, genuine connections, and supporting others. My goal is to create a sense of awareness and acceptance throughout this process. I look at clients as a whole person and establish goals that fit into your lifestyle. I encourage healthy communication patterns, facilitate a safe space for processing, and guide you as we walk toward meaning and purpose. I enjoy working with those from all walks of life experiencing stressful life events such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship issues, and life transitions. I work with children and teens through play and activity therapy. I love working with individuals, couples, families, marriages, and eating disorders.
Do you accept insurance and how does insurance billing work?
As an LPC Associate, I am unable to accept insurance directly. However, I do provide superbill invoices that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.
What COVID-19 safety measures are in place for in-person sessions?
Currently, I do not offer in-person sessions due to my recent relocation to a new city. However, I continue to provide therapy services through online therapy options to ensure the safety and well-being of my clients.
